In this laboratory, we use the technique of corporeal mime both as a tool and as an end in itself. Through various exercises and proposals, the body deepens its understanding of the language of dramatic corporeal mime and its relation to creation. This course also offers a cross-disciplinary space featuring object work and physical training.

Course Objectives

This physical theatre laboratory aims to reconcile rigour and pleasure through the demanding work of corporeal mime. To reach further, each student will have a personalised objective, and we will delve into the following technical and creative aspects:

Corporeal Mime training

Technique and repertoire: We will review the fundamental tools of corporeal mime and, this term, we will revisit the piece “The Newspaper”, among other figures.

Improvisation and creation: As we cannot understand corporeal mime without its most creative component, we will continue relating technical concepts to improvisation, and finally, we will enter a creation-laboratory revolving around the poetics of verbs with the intention of holding an open showing of the work.

Transversal Enrichment: guest blocks

During the term, there will be two blocks with a guest teacher to delve into the following:

WORKING WITH OBJECTS (with Pau Garcia, 2nd & 4th February)

A playful capsule introducing object theatre and puppetry, where play and creation are the starting point. We will explore the link between body and object through movement, rhythm, and presence, awakening creativity and the pleasure of playing on stage.

PHYSICALITY AND PLAY (with Neilor Moreno, 2nd, 4th & 9th March)

This capsule proposes to expand the expressive capacity of the body through the conscious investigation of movement, action, and gesture. Through dynamics based on imagination, play, and practical inquiry, the aim is to develop a body that is available, sensitive, and creative. The work combines technical principles with an experimental approach, allowing each participant to discover new ways of inhabiting, communicating, and transforming their own movement.

Training methodology - Class structure

During the physical theatre laboratory, working guidelines are proposed so that each participant can improve their corporal language, develop their repertoire and acquire tools that enable rich creative work in the formal, spatial and emotional spheres.

All classes in the laboratory begin with a physical and sensitive warm-up; following this, the class focuses on specific exercises to perfect the technique and continues with the analysis and study of figures and/or repertoire pieces. Finally, the technical guidelines are applied to creative exercises or new improvisation themes are offered.
