In this course on physical theatre and object manipulation taught by the Company Zero en Conducta, the students with the teachers, the teachers with the students, and amongst the students themselves. To create a boundless environment in which to explore our artistic interests, where the tangible and the intangible belong to the same world. We will treat the problem as an ally working in our favour; to avoid it is also to miss an opportunity.
A course designed for individuals (couples or groups) who have an idea and want to plant the seed to begin developing it, for those who are curious and eager to learn how other companies work in the field of creation, or for those who simply want to begin exploring this branch of theatre and movement.
This course in object manipulation in Barcelona is ideal for artists interested in expanding their technical and creative repertoire.
Course Objectives
- To train the body through physical exercises – both creative and technical – for application to both the object and the performer themselves.
- To work on the dissociation of the body with the aim of achieving a form of articulation suitable for our character, as well as an initial exploration of how this can be applied in the action itself.
- To explore theatrical play and improvisation through the body and objects.
- To explore compositional work within the framework of physical theatre in relation to the object.
- The importance of using music and silence in the creative process.
- Using time as a cinematic resource within the performing arts.
The course will be held in Spanish with possible translation into English and French.
Methodology
-
We will learn a series of choreographies and part of Zero's repertoire in Conducta, to technically approach the different expressive possibilities that our body has and, where appropriate, with the object.
-
An approach to the poetic codes and different metaphors of movement offered by physical theatre and objects.
-
Through research and choreography, we will focus on conveying our soul to the object so that it speaks through the movement of our body.
-
Introduction to 21st-century dynamorithms. This concept is an investigation into the company's own language. It refers to the effects that modern cinema provides us with (rewind, stop, slow motion, fast motion, image jumps and combinations of these).
Cía. Zero en Conducta
Cia Zero en Conducta is a leading figure in visual theatre and puppetry in Barcelona, internationally recognised for the quality of its shows and its exploration of the relationship between the body and objects.
Zero en Conducta, Teatre del Moviment is a Barcelona-based project founded in 2011 by José Antonio Puchades (Putxa) with the aim of exploring the expressive potential of various performing arts related to movement. His research focuses on the fusion of corporeal mime, dance, puppetry and physical theatre. Following the 2012 premiere of Nymio, a digital theatre production that has won three acting awards and features Julieta Gascón, who shares the directing, playwriting and acting duties with Putxa; the company premiered in 2014, Allegro ma non troppo with five international awards.
Over the years, the Zero en Conducta company has devoted its efforts and expertise to researching the fusion of various performing arts disciplines such as physical mime, dance and puppetry (especially direct manipulation). This research has resulted in five shows that have toured more than 30 countries around the world and won several international awards.
In addition to directing and performing, teaching is also one of the company’s interests, as sharing and receiving greatly enriches a discipline for which there are still no books or much reference material.
