The creative body

The aim of this course is for participants to discover and understand how essential notions such as articulation, weight, rhythm or causalities can become a source of inspiration and bring about improvements in artistic work. The work will mainly focus on experimental research through group dynamics and the expressive possibilities of physical action. We will address the following questions: - Is it possible to use the metaphorical power of the body without losing the direct connection with the audience? - How to articulate an action physically and dramatically to enhance the richness of the performer's expressions? - How to reconcile technical quality and the creative freedom of the actor/actress? This intensive physical theatre course is open to professionals and students, or anyone interested in the tools of physical theatre.

The class always begins with a physical and group warm-up that allows us to connect both with our body and with the other participants. The warm-up evolves into a second part dedicated to training, in which we can work dynamically on the technical principles proposed each day. These principles are worked on individually or in pairs, alternating between moments directed by the teacher and moments of guided practice. The third part of the class takes us into the field of improvisation and creation, putting the principles studied at the service of creative work.

Stéphane Lévy is co-artistic director of the Moveo Company and of the Moveo Training and Creation Centre, and a teacher at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona. As a pedagogue in the field of physical theatre, he has a long career and has worked with performers and students from more than 20 different countries. Since 2005 Stephane has been directing shows for the Moveo Company and his work as a creator has been awarded several prizes both in Spain and abroad. More info about Stéphane Lévy here.
